Going Minimal with Your Hardware12 Sep 2012 | by Scott Nesbitt
For some people, the more hardware they have the better. Or so they believe. Take Apple Computer’s co-founder Steve Wozniak, for instance. Woz, as he’s affectionately known, carries a 50 lb. backpack when he travels.
Contrast that with Derek Sivers. He goes minimalist with his hardware. Not to an extreme, I think, but Sivers carries only what he needs. In Sivers’ case, that’s:
- A laptop.
- An Android smartphone.
- An ebook reader.
- Noise-cancelling headphones.
But Sivers’ minimalism also extends to his software. He uses a skinny Linux distribution and, for the most part, command line applications.
The setup that Derek Sivers uses demonstrates you that you can actually get things done with less. It’s all about embracing what works for you.Thoughts? Let's start a conversation on Twitter.
